couples counseling in vandalia and across illinois.
A place to slow down, reconnect, and find your way back to each other.
When your relationship feels distant, stuck, or uncertain, there is a way forward.
You may remember a time when it felt easier to find your way back to each other.
Now, it can feel like you're having the same conversations over and over again—getting stuck in the same arguments, misunderstandings, or moments of disconnection no matter how hard you try to do things differently.
One of you may pursue the conversation while the other pulls away. One of you may feel unheard while the other feels criticized. Before long, you're caught in a pattern neither of you intended, wondering how something that started so small became another painful interaction.
And perhaps the hardest part is that you still care deeply about each other.
You want to feel close. You want to understand each other. You want things to be different.
Yet somehow, the distance continues to grow.
Over time, that disconnection can begin to affect every part of the relationship. Conversations feel more difficult. Emotional closeness becomes harder to access. Intimacy may feel strained, inconsistent, or increasingly complicated. Even your faith, which once felt like a source of connection, may feel harder to share together during this season.
If any of this feels familiar, you're not alone—and it doesn't mean your relationship is beyond repair.
A steady supportive path back to connection.
In our work together, we'll slow things down and create space for both of you to feel heard, understood, and supported—without blame or taking sides.
Rather than focusing only on the content of the conflict, we'll begin paying attention to the pattern that's happening between you. Those moments that seem to escalate quickly, leave one of you feeling unheard, or pull you further apart often make more sense when we slow them down and look at what's happening underneath.
Together, we'll begin to uncover the deeper emotions, needs, fears, and longings that are often hidden beneath frustration, withdrawal, defensiveness, or conflict. As those experiences become easier to recognize and express, many couples find themselves having different conversations—not because they've learned a script, but because they understand each other more clearly.
Over time, the cycle itself begins to lose its grip.
The moments that once left you feeling disconnected, misunderstood, or alone can become opportunities for greater understanding, responsiveness, and connection.
As emotional safety grows, physical intimacy often begins to feel different as well. Whether you're navigating desire differences, sexual disconnection, or simply feeling distant from one another, we'll create space to explore those experiences with care and curiosity rather than pressure or blame.
Whether one of you feels more ready than the other, we’ll work at a pace that respects where each of you are while helping you move toward one another again.
For couples who desire it, faith can also be a meaningful part of this process. Together, we'll create space to explore how your relationship with God intersects with your relationship with each other, allowing grace, honesty, and healing to become part of the journey.
Over time, many couples begin to feel more like a team again—less caught in old patterns and more able to navigate life's challenges together. The goal isn't perfection or never having conflict. It's creating a relationship where both of you feel safer, more connected, and more confident that you can find your way back to each other when difficult moments arise.

Couples therapy can be helpful if you're feeling stuck in recurring patterns of conflict, disconnection, miscommunication, or emotional distance. You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many couples seek support because they want to strengthen their relationship, rebuild trust, improve communication, or reconnect after feeling distant from one another.

This is actually quite common. Often, one partner is more eager to begin while the other may feel hesitant, uncertain, or even discouraged. My goal is not to convince either person to take a particular position, but to create a space where both partners feel respected and understood. We'll work at a pace that honors where each of you are while helping you move toward greater understanding and connection.

No. My role is not to determine who is right or wrong. Instead, I help couples understand the patterns that keep them stuck and the experiences underneath those patterns. Together, we'll focus on strengthening the relationship and creating a deeper understanding of what each partner is experiencing.

The first session is an opportunity for me to get to know both of you and better understand what brings you to therapy. We'll talk about the challenges you're facing, how those concerns are affecting your relationship, and what you're hoping will be different moving forward.
You don't need to have everything figured out before you come in. My goal is to create a space where both partners feel heard and understood as we begin identifying the patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

The length of therapy varies depending on your goals, the concerns you're addressing, and the history of your relationship. Some couples seek support around a specific challenge and meet for a shorter period of time, while others choose longer-term work to address deeper patterns of disconnection, communication difficulties, or relationship wounds.
During our work together, we'll regularly check in on your progress and make decisions collaboratively about what feels most helpful for your relationship.

My work with couples is primarily informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an evidence-based approach that helps couples understand and change the patterns that keep them feeling disconnected from one another.
Rather than focusing on who's right or wrong, we'll work together to understand what happens beneath the conflict, withdrawal, or tension. As we slow those moments down, couples often begin to recognize the deeper emotions, needs, and longings driving their interactions. This creates opportunities for new conversations, greater understanding, and deeper connection.
My approach is relational, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that meaningful change happens when both partners feel seen, understood, and emotionally safe enough to engage with each other in new ways.
