Yoga and Embodiment Practices

Your every breath whispers His name.

Why Yoga?

My heart for yoga and all embodiment practices is deeply rooted in Romans 12:1 ‘Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God-this is your true and proper worship.’ (NIV)

Our bodies were created for connection, for worship, for prayer. God designed us this way. He specifically and uniquely wired our nervous systems to return again and again to His loving arms, an embodied approach to the gospel.

Yoga is an invitation, a Holy rewiring, a repetitive surrender of our burdens, anxieties and fears before our God who gazes upon us with loving eyes. Not only is yoga deeply healing and healthy for the body, it returns our bodies back into ‘rest and digest’. It is within this place we can deeper connect, love, live with curiosity and compassion, and to further embody the character of Christ with ourselves and our relationships.

As a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance, my classes are trauma-informed, gentle, and beginner friendly. I incorporate elements of neuroscience, somatic psychology, polyvagal theory, and integration of God’s Word.

We have been gifted with this world and these bodies because this is where God dwells. It is in these bodies that we work out our salvation. This corporeal nature is the place that God calls ‘home’. What we are doing in yoga is a concrete application of our incarnational faith

Incorporating Faith In Yoga

Each one of my yoga classes is built upon the 5 stops within the Old Testament tabernacle (the original dwelling place where God longed to be with His people) and how Jesus fulfilled each of them.

Entering In (the gate) John 10:9: Where am I in my body? How am I arriving?

Offering (the altar) Hebrews 13:10-12: What do I need to offer to the Lord? Surrender to Him?

Restoration (washbasin) Hebrews 10:14: navigating the tension between grit and grace. I cannot work for my salvation. God’s grace meets me where I am (He washes me clean), yet He also stretches me in my sanctification process, refining me to become more like Him.

Awe/wonder (Holy Place) John 6:35; John 8:12; 2 Corinthians 2:15: gratitude and praise for what He has done.

Holy Rest (Holy of Holies): John 1:14 Sabbath REST: A full dwelling in and being with God. Immanuel (God with us)
